On Saturday September 25th 2010, Desirée and I will have the privilege of supporting Choices Resource Center in the 2010 Walk for Life. This is the 15th annual walk that has been held. Choices Resource Center is a non-profit in Oak Ridge TN that help women when they face unexpected pregnancies. Their approach of ministering God’s truth with unconditional love enables each woman to make positive, informed choices for herself and her baby. Little ones will someday have the chance to thank their moms for choosing life rather than abortion. Their staff, supported by trained volunteers, have been committed to meeting the needs of our community since 1992. Some of the free, confidential services they provide are:

Accurate pregnancy tests and confidential consultation

Factual information about parenting, adoption, and the risks of abortion

Ultrasound Imaging

STD Testing

24-hour Helpline (865 483 0099)

Heart to Heart parenting classes with Stork’s Nest Baby Boutique

Madre a Madre parenting classes for Spanish-speaking moms

STEPS Parenting Program

Second Thoughts sexual integrity education

Sarah’s Pearls purity support group

Healing Hearts post-abortion support for women / Missing Arrows for men

Desirée and I would love to have your support as we help support Choices. To support us, you can either e-mail us by using the ‘Contact’ tab at the top of the blog, or by going to http://crcwalkforlife.org/sponsor/jdlowe You can either support us by credit card (all transactions are secure) or by using the ‘bill me later’ option on the sponsor page.

Thanks everyone!

Have you ever had a near death experience? Have you ever done something and after the fact thought “WOW, I can’t believe I made it through that!”? Have you ever wondered why the Lord allowed you to make it through a difficult circumstance or situation? For you it may have been a close call in a car. Maybe at medical condition. Hurt your back or fallen off of a roof, a bike or a ladder?

What will YOU do with the second chance at life that the Lord has given you? My suggestion would be to live for Him everyday. Give Him all the glory and share your story to allow others to see His light through your life!

Last week when we were going into church, as we were deciding where to sit. My response to Desirée’s question was simply ‘I don’t care’. That got me to thinking, why is it that I don’t care. To me it doesn’t matter if I’m on the back row, or the front row. Why is that? The words of Paul came to my mind:

22 When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. 23 I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings. – 1 Corinthians 9:22-23 NLT

Are you willing to become all things to lead people to Christ? It’s my prayer and it should be yours too…

A couple of weeks ago, I got a few new CD’s. One of which is MercyMe, The Generous Mr. Lovewell. To start off, it’s a great CD. When I was in Cedar Springs and did a quick listen, the first track really got me going. Since spinning it quite a few more times now the first track I truly love. Below are the lyrics and some of my commentary as to what the Lord saying to ME through this song… It’s a great song/album, check out this

MercyMe – This Life (from The Generous Mr. Lovewell Album)

this is not my home
(this is not my space)
this is not my style
(this is not my place)

So don’t get comfortable in the place/situation you are in Jeff, because I can change it at ANY time.

Can’t get comfortable
(cant get settled in)
simply don’t belong
(cant get used to this)

You know that uneasyness you have been feeling, that’s Me at work, about to do something great, just hang on.

But I’m here right now
(I can hear you say)
make the most of Me
(this wont go to waste)
If I’m out of my mind
(yeah its all for Christ)
if I’m making sense
(then get it right)

Focus on Me and Me only. Even though this seems crazy all that stuff We’re going through, just hang on, I’m here, it will all make sense in the end.

every moment is a chance
to let your light break through

this life (oh oh oh oh)
this life was meant to shine
this life (oh oh oh oh)
this life was meant to shine

I don’t have to stall
(I don’t have to wait)
don’t have to bide my time
(till i make my escape)
cuz heavan’s in my heart
(I wont settle for less)
I will lift your name
(by the life I live)

every moment is a chance
to let your light break through

this life (oh oh oh oh)
this life was meant to shine
this life (oh oh oh oh)
this life was meant to shine

its in my heart
its in my soul
I’ll live everday
just to make you known

cuz this life
this life was meant to
meant to shine

hold your heads up high
this is our moment to rise
we were meant to shine
not just survive

hold your heads up high
this is our moment to rise
we were meant to shine
not just survive

this life (oh oh oh oh)
this life was meant to shine
this life (oh oh oh oh)
this life was meant to shine

This past weekend, Desiree and I were fortunate enough to be able to go down to my grandparents house for my grandmothers 85th birthday. It’s great to be able to see them, as we usually only get to a couple times during the year. This trip was a quick one, down one day and back the next, but special none-the-less. Just a few tidbits about my grandmother. She is the 2 of 4 children (5 if you include her half brother Hosea, whose mother had died before my great-grandfather met my great-grandmother). Born in Kansas and went to OU (Ottawa University), where she met my grandfather. They married in Corpus Christi, TX, when my grandfather was in the Navy during WW2. Before retiring she was an elementary school teacher. They continue to travel as they have done for many years now and are very active in their community and church (First Baptist Church).

I don’t often say that I saw something in a restaurant that impressed me, but on Wednesday I did. Desiree and I went to PF Chang’s for dinner. While we were sitting there waiting for our dinner, a waiter came and cleaned a table next to us. Here is what caught me off guard. They pulled some (what I believe to be) sanitizing wipes out of a zip lock back and proceeded to wipe the table down. The fact that they recognize that people don’t really appreciate the idea of a rag that has seen lots of action that day, wiping down all of the tables and thus leaving who knows what on the table, I for one appreciate.

Also while there, there was a problem with my meal (something was in it that shouldn’t have been). So, I had the waiter bring me a new dish and the manager actually brought it back. Gave us a free appetizer coupon AND removed my dinner from our bill. Great customer service!! I didn’t need either of which, but it is nice to know that they are going to make it right, when there is a problem. We have eaten there many times and will continue to do so for just this reason (that and the food is great)!

What about you, any great dining stories to share?

If you are like me, sometimes you can’t get the exact domain name that you want. When I purchased the name for this blog (jeffreylowe.com), I really wanted it to be jeff instead of jeffrey. An answer to what you maybe looking for may be just around the corner.

This is another top level domain (a top level domain is .com, .edu, .gov, .net – you get the idea) that is about to be opened up for public consumption. The new domain is .co. From what I’ve read its going to be marketed toward businesses that want .com, but can’t get what they really want. I’ve already preregistered a new name for me, although at this time I’m not sure what I will use it for.

Consider this a PSA if there is a name out there that you have always wanted.

Happy registering!

So over the past couple of days/weeks/months I’ve been thinking about obedience. Obedience toward God. Obedience in doing what He says. While we were on vacation last week, the Lord brought to mind Jonah. Now Jonah was a God fearing man, who had been given clear direction on what the Lord wanted him to do. Jonah, like many of us though, had another plan. Something else he wanted to do. So Jonah, defiantly and directly disobeyed what the Lord had told him to do.

Jonah 1:1-3 – 1 The word of the LORD came to Jonah son of Amittai: 2 “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.” 3 But Jonah ran away from the LORD and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the LORD.

Is there something in your life that the Lord has clearly instructed you to do, that you are being disobedient, or dragging your feet about doing? Maybe there is a level of faith that is required to take this step, that you simply aren’t ready to take. Maybe it’s something that will initially be painful. Rest assured that the Lord knows and sees the bigger picture, when we only have a small window into what is actually going on. Trust Him today and step out in faith!
