Thailand update #5

Good day everyone.  Right now it’s Tuesday evening for us.  Today I was very nervous about going to the slum areas, but as always God really showed up and gave me a the peace I needed to get through it.  God is soo good.  I am always in awe of the greatness of God.  We as Americans don’t realize how good we have it.  There are people that simply don’t have anything.  From KARM in our own back yard to half way around the world.  They have what we would throw away.  They live where we wouldn’t dare be seen.  Today, we went to a Wal-Mart type place and bought a whole bunch of food (rice, noodles, and a couple different canned products).  We went to three slums and I’m guessing we saw around 50-60 people.  In each case, I think that this is only a little representation of their families, not the entire family.  Each family got one bag of food (about the size of a plastic grocery bag) and that is enough food to feed that entire family (2-3) for 2 days.  It’s simply amazing to see how little you can have and survive.  The great part about it, all of these people are relatively happy.  They don’t seem to mope around, they all have smiles on their faces.  If we were in that spot, I don’t think we would be as happy…

Tonight we went to the non restaurant distribution location.  We knew going in that there would only be one wave of tourists and that it was going to be an early night at this location.  We did however give out two boxes of bibles and packets, which equates to 50.  For dinner we had grilled meat on a stick with sticky rice.  It was yummy.  Never did I think that I would say that, I guess I’m becoming part Asian. :)

Since we knew it was going to be an early night we planned and did go to the spa.  Desiree, Matt and myself got foot massages.  As expected, I fell asleep and started snoring.  At least no one thought anyone was my son. :)

Tomorrow we have a worship service with the all the ministries of this particular town.  After that we will be touring a ministry that helps women get out of bad trades and learn new ones.  Then lunch and free time, then more distribution at the non restaurant distribution point.  We have been told that there will be two groups tomorrow.  Please pray that they will be fresh tourists and that they all will take bibles and packets.

Thanks again for all the prayers, they sure are being felt!
